The American Southwest is an invigorating destination for lovers of nature in all it's many forms. Begun in 1928 and name for the sitting president, Hoover Dam is nothing short of an engineering marvel. Taking most of seven years to construct, this concrete wonder doesn't only generate electricity, store water for farming needs, it also created a massive recreation spot for those loving water activities - Lake Mead. Hoover Dam is on the Colorado River and was dedicated in 1935. You may not know, but Hoover Dam is in the Art Deco style and contains many beautiful and artistic appointments. The city of Los Angeles, some 300 miles away, receives electricity generate at Hoover Dam. Just the sheer scale of this project will remain as a memorable afternoon in the American southwest.
